Beretta Cx Storm - The Beretta CX4 Tempest is an excellent pistol caliber carbine: The Beretta CX4 Tempest is a 9mm carbine that I didn't really think about. It's always been a little off-putting to me. I know it's a small reason, but I've owned a lot of pistol-caliber carbines in my life and I see no reason to pick it up.

I stand by my opinion that the CX4 is an ugly gun, but I see no design flaws when it comes to functionality, which is more important than my superficial gripes about its looks. The CX4 is almost entirely polymer except for the internal components such as the bolt, barrel, etc. and the two detachable Picatinny rails on either side of the hand guard. I dropped it (unloaded) a few times to see how bad it would break and it was fine. There are a few scratches from the concrete, but nothing that causes problems. All its features work well and are fine. The reciprocating bolt and loading handle can be swapped out on either side if you're so inclined. I must say the design is solid (technically anyway).

I also want to note that my Model 92FS magazine is compatible. Now I have a friend lined up to go with my Beretta 92 when I go shooting. But not all models are like this. Some are compatible with PX4 magazines instead.
Accuracy is also very good. I mean you probably won't win any target shooting contests with it, but you can expect to hit 2-inch to 2 ½-inch groups without much trouble. Help include it when the party is held. They are very strong. You can also switch between two eye photo settings. The short range option is slightly wider and the long range is, as you might expect, slightly narrower for better accuracy.
But I was surprised to see the retreat. It's a little stronger than you might expect. Not even a 9mm heavy round, which was a bit of a surprise. But even then, it's not too bad. It's like "hey, that's a heavy 9mm."
You can expect excellent reliability from this thing as well. I had zero defects even when I went to some of the cheapest ammo I could find. 1000+ rounds without malfunctioning definitely gets my seal of approval.

There is a practical use for the CX4, but who cares? It is a weapon. It shoots great and you can count on it to eat up any ammo you throw at it. The Beretta CX4 may be a butterface, but it's an excellent carbine worth your money. Additionally, it is very moderate when it comes to the price of the carbine at just $899. So, if you like Berettas, go for it.

Several years ago, Italian arms manufacturer Beretta introduced a new weapon. Off and on for nearly 500 years, the company has done it many times. The Beretta is the oldest continuous action firearm in history. The arm in question has a set of features that should make it a bestseller, but it somehow falls far short of that goal. This is not a failure of quality; On the contrary. The gun in question is the Beretta Cx4 Storm. It is a lightweight, polymer-and-steel, pistol-caliber carbine sharing chambers and magazines with existing Beretta semi-automatic pistols. This gives the shooter the advantage of feeding both guns from the same magazine. The company produced several Cx4 carbines in 9 mm, .40 S&W and .45 ACP. There were plans to produce the weapon in .357 SIG, but the platform was never offered in this high-velocity caliber.
Pistols in these calibers usually have some type of closed-breech, recoil-operated mechanism. For a carbine, it is possible to use a heavier bolt and a stronger recoil spring in the blowback system. This feature is essentially the operating system used in most submachine guns, but the Cx4 fires from a locked bolt. The trigger cannot be modified to fire fully automatically.
While most weapons of this type—compact, pistol-caliber carbines—are laid out in a similar fashion, the Cx4 is decidedly different. On this gun, the magazine well is located in the pistol grip. This effectively shifts the weapon's balance slightly back. The controls can be adjusted to suit the tactical taste of the shooter. This arrangement is ideal for me, as I am forced to shoot over the left shoulder due to vision problems. My Cx4 is set up to send the brass on the left, but the operating handle is on the right. I use the back of the right hand on the bolt rack.
Changing the magazine catch is from the left side—with the trigger finger (left). In this arrangement, the gun rests in my left hand and can be fired effectively one-handed at close range by tucking the butt on the elbow. This approach is a great advantage.

But the Cx4 is unique in more ways than tactical handling. Naturally, the designers envisioned a gun with exotic styling like one of Italy's most famous automobiles. Some of the Px4 pistol shapes are repeated in the Cx4. The small carbine is eye-catching with unconventional but attractive curves. The top of the receiver has many practical features such as bolt-on rails and front edges of the fore-end. It is also possible to adjust the length of the butt. When you start adding lights and lasers, they interfere with the curves, but that's a user choice.
All things considered, it looks like an effective gun, but we'll have to see the Cx4 in service. By far, the biggest users of the small Beretta carbine seem to be the Indian border police, as well as two countries in Latin America. Police and military use of the Cx4 is not widespread in this country. But if everything I hear is true, a Beretta carbine runs better than Grandma Singer's sewing machine. Many excellent reviews report trouble-free performance. Since the arm's main purpose is close combat, this kind of reliability is absolutely essential.
It's modestly priced, reliable, accurate, and loaded with unique customizable features that make it a successful home defense gun, but that hasn't been the case for the Cx4. I don't want to say it's a complete sales dud, but there's no waiting list for them anywhere that I know of. I can only guess why this happened. It's only the Cx4's unique appearance that has cast suspicion on the part of American shooters. No gun appears or handles in the shooter's collective memory bank.
But a feature like a straight-line stock is valuable, as it vectors straight back—against the shooter's shoulder. As the online videos clearly show, the muscle lift is short. If the shooter has a tactical need for a lightning-quick magazine change, he or she can do so without removing the gun's butt from the shoulder.

It's a different weapon, but carefully crafted. Beretta's Storm Cx4 is good fighting gear.
