NBAFS is one of eight Air Force Satellite Control Network remote tracking stations operating near Scriver Air Force Base in Colorado Springs.
"Schriever is where the satellite operations take place, so the actual flight of the satellites and the operations of the satellites," said Maj. Jeffrey Rivenbark of the 50th Space Wing, 50th Network Operations Group, 23rd Space Operations Squadron. "We're here to give the operator the ability to connect to those satellites around the world." Major. "For a satellite to do its job, you have to be able to communicate with it," Rivenbankard said, adding that satellites don't fly by themselves. Our role here is to be able to provide that communication.
Airmen at Schriever AFB need to know where those satellites are in order to contact them, and that's where NBAFS comes in.

Rivenbank puts it simply, “What I tell my family and friends about what we're doing at the new Boston Air Force Base ... we're enabling an operator around the world to talk to their satellite on the other side. This is Without that capability, satellites don't fly, data doesn't flow, missions don't happen.
"Basically, we will be able to communicate with a satellite 22,000 miles in space in geosynchronous orbit," Rivenbank added.
These satellites are 43 feet in diameter and are intended to detect satellites in orbit. There are no holidays while supporting USSTRATCOM.
"There are no disruptions in satellite operations. We have to maintain our operations floor to provide that coverage if someone gets sick or someone needs to take time off," Rivenbank said. We have to take that into account."
